My name is Laura Smart and I am a qualified Trauma-Informed Practitioner. This means I fully understand trauma’s role in mental health and how it can underpin and manifest into addictions and other stress and trauma responses. I offer compassionate, evidence-based, and ethical care to my clients, their families and the organisations I work with.  I provide a safe, trusting space for exploration, healing and growth.

I created London Counselling and Consultancy after years of working in management in the charity sector coordinating counselling and mentoring services, creating and delivering training programmes, workshops and courses for young people, adults, and professionals, managing teams, and being engulfed in admin, end-of-month reports and emails! I decided I wanted to work for myself, create my own business, and work more in line with my lived experience, professional experience and expertise, values and passion for helping people struggling with poor mental health - resulting in unhealthy behaviour patterns, maladaptive stress responses and addictions.

I am a qualified counsellor (Gestalt, CBT, REBT, DBT) and group facilitator with extensive experience in helping people and their families struggling with mental health challenges, trauma, substance misuse and alcoholism, process and behavioural addictions.  My services include private one-to-one counselling and therapy, psychoeducational group work, inner child therapy, aftercare, and online groups, courses and programmes to help educate and support people.

My consultancy work includes writing and developing therapeutic and psychoeducational, informative, interactive, and engaging training programmes, courses, and workshops tailored to meet the requirements of organisations. These include treatment centres, behavioural addiction and substance misuse services and charities, counselling/psychotherapy and coaching services, housing associations, homeless services and charities, prisons and young offenders institutions, schools and pupil referral units, colleges and universities, and all other educational organisations both mainstream and private. I deliver training, workshops and courses both in person and online and create workbooks and toolkits to assist and enhance learning and understanding.

I also offer addiction and mental health consultancy to assist people in accessing treatment and other relevant services if needed to overcome active addiction, trauma and poor mental health. I work with clients and their families before, during, and after residential or outpatient treatment. Aftercare is a vital component of somebody’s treatment and care plan, so ongoing support, guidance, and structure are pivotal.

Alongside my consultancy and private practice in London, I am also based online globally and in several residential rehabilitation treatment centres in the UK providing 1-2-1 therapy, psychoeducational group work, online groups, courses and aftercare programmes. I am trained and influenced by several approaches to therapy, such as Gestalt (working with the whole body, mind, and spirit), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy), and Inner Child Therapy and trauma recovery.

I am passionate about people's emotional well-being and recovery and breaking down the stigma attached to mental health, addictions and trauma.
